Excellence Through Diversity Fellowship

The Diversity office in the Graduate School awards fellowships on a competitive basis to support Underrepresented Graduate Students in Higher Education. The Presidential Diversity Fellowship welcomes nominations from faculty and staff in all academic disciplines at the University of Utah.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Fellowships are awarded to full time graduate students. All applicants must be nominated by a member of their department. This is a renewable scholarship as long as the nominating Department is willing to match funds equal to or greater than the amount provided by the Graduate School. Returning students must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or above (must provide transcript) to remain in the program.
  • At the time of applying, applicants must be accepted into a graduate program at the University of Utah.
  • The applicant's departmental nomination, previous academic experience, and community contribution, will be considered.
    • Nomination Letter (preferably from a prospective mentor)
    • Nominees Resume/CV
    • Each nominee must submit a 500 word essay as part of his or her application. In the essay, applicants should describe the key to their academic success as a member of an underrepresented group in Graduate education.
    • Academic Transcripts
  • Awardees will be encouraged to participate in networking sessions, recruitment efforts and community building activities throughout the year.
  • The Fellowship application period is on a rolling basis.

THE AWARD

This Fellowship varies in dollar amount as dictated by the matching funds awarded by the student’s academic department. This award is renewable not to include summer semesters.  Awards are announced as soon as approved by the Diversity Advisory Committee and the Leadership of the Graduate School.
