"Celebrate Diversity" Mini-Grant

To Whom It May Concern:

The Graduate School is proud to announce the "Celebrate Diversity" mini-grant application. The deadline for submission is on a rolling basis.

The Diversity office in the Graduate School will help support those activities that value the various contributions of traditionally underrepresented students in Higher Education through a limited number of $1000 grants.

Who Can Submit Proposals?

University of Utah, faculty, staff and/or registered student organizations are welcome to submit proposals.

Three Priority Points for a Proposal

  1. All proposals must address one or more of the following dimensions of diversity - age, class, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, religion, and sexual orientation.
  2. Research on the impact of diversity on the academic experience at the University of Utah.
  3. Projects that are intended to have a long-term impact on enhancing diversity at the University, that affect a broad range or number of students, staff or faculty, or that address a significant currently unmet need or concern related to diversity.

Deadline: All proposals must be received in the Graduate School office by 5:00 pm thirty (30) days before the event.

Criteria for Submission

Grant - $1,000

Mini grants are often submitted to bring scholars and other speakers to campus. Grants are used for honorarium, travel expenses, and other related costs. Proposals for an activity or speaker include information on likely participants, its importance and relevance to the historical and contemporary role of people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Attach the title page and budget
  • Include a one page narrative on the proposed speaker or activity.
  • Proposal must address diversity at the University of Utah
  • Submit with applicable signatures from dean, or department chair, and fiscal officer.
  • Submit 4 (four) copies of the proposal. Faxed proposals will not be accepted. Applicants will be notified of the status of their proposal by the end of the month.

Promotional materials which advertise the program or activity are encouraged to identify sponsorship from the Graduate School.

Guidelines for Project Completion and Assessment Report

Reports are due 1 month after project completion.

A. Cover page with the following items:

  1. Title of project
  2. Participating groups
  3. Name of principal investigator, campus address, email, fax, phone
  4. Amount of award and amount expended. A short explanation if funds were not fully expended.

B. Summary report and assessment (maximum of three pages)
A narrative of the project indicating what impact this project had on improving or initiating diversity at the university. This will include:

  1. Description of the project or activities.
  2. Assessment of the project:
    • How did this project address diversity on the U of U campus?
    • Did the project address a significant unmet need related to diversity?
    • How the project was publicized and how effective were these efforts?
    • Please include any flyers or brochures from project, numbers attending event, etc.
    • Describe successful aspects of the project. What areas could have been improved? Are there any plans to continue? Modify? Disseminate results of this project in the future?
  3. Optional comments on project and/or diversity, equity & social justice.
