* Factors that can result in longer editing times include unavailability of the student to participate in the ongoing editing process, unusually serious problems with format or writing, and manuscript length in excess of 200 pages, which may require 10 to 20 days for the first reading, as opposed to the typical 5 to 10 days. Please take these factors into account in planning defense and graduation dates. Remember, the earlier a manuscript is submitted, the better the student's chance of graduating in the desired semester. The submitted manuscript must be a hard (paper) copy.

  1. Filed by the department following the examination.
  2. Processed no earlier than one year before graduation. Filled out by the student, approved by the supervisory committee and department chair, and filed by the department.
  3. Initiated by the student in the Department of Language and Literature; filed by the department.
  4. Filed by department after the examination.
  5. Submitted by the student.
  6. Submitted by the student.
Please Note:
  1. Unless all remaining graduate programs requirements such as add/deletes, grades, extensions, and petitions are complete and have been processed by Graduate Records and the Registrar's Office within two weeks following the published final examination period, the student will graduate the following semester. It is the responsibility of the students to check with their departments to confirm completion of requirements.
  2. Each department should confirm the posting of student degrees after each graduation.
  3. Student corrections of the manuscript submitted for format approval must be examined by the Thesis Editor prior to duplication of the final three copies. For graduation in a particular semester, students must observe the final date for this resubmission listed in the Thesis Office correction sheet.
